Tours to Crete from Chisinau — Last-Minute Deals
Crete, the biggest island of Greece, packs sandy beaches, a Minoan palace and a mountain gorge into a single week. In summer there are direct flights from Chisinau, with just over two hours of flying time to Heraklion, after which a transfer takes holidaymakers on to their resorts. The island follows Schengen rules, so travel with a biometric passport; on arrival, your biometric data goes into the EES database.
The price covers flights, transfers, accommodation and insurance, while meals are up to you, from breakfast only to all-inclusive. Getting to Chisinau is not included. Free rooms on your dates are easiest to find with the tour search, while choosing a region is simpler with advice from a manager.

Crete with Children
- Cretaquarium. A large sea aquarium in Gournes, 15 km from Heraklion, with some sixty tanks of Mediterranean marine life.
- Dinosauria Park. Life-size dinosaur models next door to the aquarium; both are easy to see on the same day.
- Water parks. Acqua Plus in Hersonissos, plus big slides at many hotels along the north coast.
- Shallow water. On the sandy beaches of Malia, Hersonissos and Rethymno the sea stays shallow far from shore, so toddlers can paddle in easily.
Cretan Food and Wine
Cretan cooking is counted among the healthiest in the Mediterranean, built on olive oil, mountain herbs, sheep's cheese and honey. Try dakos (a barley rusk topped with tomato and soft cheese), gamopilafo wedding pilaf, Cretan-style snails and thyme honey. After dinner, tavernas often pour a free glass of raki, the local tsikoudia, and wine lovers head for the villages of the Peza wine region south of Heraklion.
Activities and Excursions
- Gorges. Samaria is a hike of about 16 km, and its trail is open between May and October, while the shorter Imbros Gorge takes half a day.
- Lasithi Plateau. Windmills on a plain ringed by mountains, and the Psychro Cave, the mythical birthplace of Zeus.
- Spinalonga. An island fortress opposite Elounda and a former leper colony; boats sail there from Plaka, Elounda and Agios Nikolaos.
- Chrissi Island. A nature reserve with a cedar forest and golden beaches, reached by boat from the southern port of Ierapetra.
- Knossos. The Minoan palace twenty minutes from Heraklion and the island's key historical excursion.

Best Time to Visit
- May. Water temperatures reach about +20 °C and the hills are in bloom, ideal for gorge hikes.
- June and September. Days of +27…+29 °C and water at +23…+25 °C: the most comfortable months for families.
- July – August. +30 °C and above by day, with the meltemi wind blowing on the north coast; the sea on the south side is usually calmer then.
- October. The water is still around +23 °C, and the season winds down by the end of the month.
Hotels and Prices
Elounda and the area around Agios Nikolaos are the island's priciest resorts. Hersonissos and Malia offer plenty of affordable all-inclusive hotels, while in Rethymno and Chania people more often choose small hotels and apartments in the old town. Prices depend on the region, star rating and month: peak rates apply in July and August, and you can save noticeably in June or September or by booking early.
Documents
- Biometric passport. It must remain valid three months or more after your flight home.
- Visa-free stay. Schengen rules cap visa-free time at 90 days in every 180.
- EES. On first entry, passport control in Heraklion scans your passport, fingerprints and face; it takes a few minutes.
- ETIAS is not needed for now: the EU will give advance notice of its start date.
- Border guards occasionally check where you are staying and when you fly back, so keep the voucher and tickets handy.
- Leaving Ukraine. Exit rules for men of draft age and for minors are revised regularly, so look them up before you book.

Which part of Crete is best with children?
Hersonissos or Malia: the airport is close, the sea stays shallow near the beach, and the water parks and Cretaquarium are nearby.
Can I visit Balos and Elafonisi if I stay near Heraklion?
Yes, but it takes a full day: both beaches are at the far western end of the island. If they are your priority, choose a hotel near Chania.
Is Crete visa-free for Ukrainian travellers?
Yes: biometric passport holders can spend up to three months out of every six in Schengen, and the EES fingerprints and photo are taken on landing in Heraklion.
When is the sea warm enough for swimming?
From late May to late October. The sea peaks in temperature in August and early September, and the south coast is usually warmer than the north.
