Getting here is easy: Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) accepts direct flights from Poland, Moldova, and further on it is 75-90 km to Kassandra (about 1.5 hours transfer) or 110-130 km to Sithonia (2-2.5 hours). The swimming season lasts from May to October, the water is warmest in August (26-27°C), and the most comfortable months for those who do not tolerate heat well are June and September.

Kassandra, Sithonia or Athos — where to go

Kassandra is the most developed and "touristic" finger. The main concentration of hotels, taverns, and nightclubs is located here, while the resort towns of Kallithea, Hanioti, Pefkohori, and Nea Potidea stretch in an almost continuous line along the coast. The beaches are mostly sandy with a gentle entry into the sea, which is why Kassandra is traditionally recommended for families with young children. The downside is that it gets crowded in summer.

Sithonia is wilder, greener, and quieter. Pine forests come right down to the water, roads wind through the mountains, and you often have to drive between coves. Sithonia is chosen by those who are ready to rent a car for the views and deserted beaches.

Athos is the third peninsula, a closed monastic autonomous region. Women are forbidden to enter its territory, while men require a special permit — a diamonitirion. However, boats depart daily from Ormos Panagias, running along the coast just a few hundred meters from the monasteries.

• Kavourotripes (Portokali), Sithonia — white rocks carved by the sea and turquoise water that looks photoshopped in pictures. It can only be reached on foot or by car, but it is the most beautiful place in the region.
