In the south of Sinai, Sharm el-Sheikh offers the warmest sea that people from Kyiv can reach most easily in winter: corals grow right by the hotel pontoons, and bays sheltered by mountains barely feel the wind. Kyiv has no direct flights for now, so travellers fly from Chisinau, about 17 hours away by train and roughly three hours from Sharm by air, or from Polish airports.

Entertainment and Excursions in Sharm

• Boat trips to Ras Mohammed and Tiran. Boats head to the national park's reefs and the islands of the strait, with snorkelling stops, lunch on board and a chance to see dolphins.
• Semi-submarine. For children and anyone who doesn't snorkel: reefs and fish are visible through glass windows in the hull.
• The desert at sunset. Quad-bike safaris, dinner in a Bedouin village and a starry sky free of city lights.
• The Coloured Canyon and Dahab. A day trip with a walk through narrow, multicoloured gorges and a stop at the Blue Hole.

When to Fly

• October – November. The sea is around +27 °C and days are hot but past the summer extremes. These are the most sought-after weeks, so book ahead.
• December – February. Days of +22…+25 °C with water at +22…+24 °C, warmer than most destinations within reach in winter. At New Year many hotels hold a festive gala dinner, sometimes for an extra charge.
• March – April. Daytime air warms to +26…+29 °C, the water stays around +22…+23 °C, and many families come for the spring holidays.
• May – September. Heat up to +38 °C and the sea up to +28 °C; plan excursions for early morning.

Visa and Documents

• Sinai Only. If you holiday only in South Sinai for up to 15 days, you get a free stamp at the border and need no paid visa.
• Cairo, Luxor or a longer stay. Trips beyond Sinai or holidays longer than 15 days require a standard Egyptian visa, obtained online in advance or bought on arrival.
• Passport. It needs six months' validity counted from your entry date. Departures from Poland require a biometric passport, and your details are entered into EES when you enter Poland.
• Border. Martial-law exit rules for men and under-18s change, so check what applies to your family beforehand.
